Career Background

I first entered the Financial Services industry after university in the late 1970’s, joining an insurance company in the Lloyds Building, London.

Some years later, I changed course and developed a varied career in management in European-based multinationals, gaining experience of life and business in France and Spain.

A subsequent change of direction brought me back to the UK and the design and delivery of Leadership Development Programmes to international law firms.

A further change brought me full circle, as a return to Financial Services enabled me to return to a more family-focussed life in Devon, where we moved in 2002. After working as an IFA in a large US-based firm, I joined CarterDawes to focus on developing my business in and around East Devon.

Personal Background

Family life dominates my free time, of course. My wife and I have three wonderful children, who are variously progressing along the school and university journey.

My working life has been interspersed with some amazing travel experiences, mostly undertaken in the days before guide books to remoter places were written. This remains a huge area of interest – my latest project is a traverse of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, which I am currently undertaking in stages with my eldest son.

Elsewhere, the children’s social and sporting interests fill our evenings and weekends, and over the years I’ve been able to contribute a little by way of sports coaching at local clubs and the children’s primary school. When time permits, digging the vegetable patch, enjoying a good meal and some fine wine with family and friends, and keeping up my Spanish and French language skills keeps me busy.
